three rituals to reconnect with Mother Nature.
(a practice for all ages) One...Relationship:
First, identify one particular plant or area of nature that you walk past regularly in your daily life. In the city this could be as simple as a tree on your road. It might feel awkward at first, but every time you go past, simply acknowledge its presence, in just the same way you might notice and nod or smile to a person who you know. Perhaps you could research the name of the plant you have chosen, if you don't already know it. With this small daily ritual, you are forming an active relationship with the deeply supportive energy of Mother Earth.
Two...Notice:
As the seasons change, notice the shift in the part of nature you are focusing on too. Engage your sense of smell, sight, and even touch. Take three full breaths as you do so, creating a mini-mindfulness meditation that can become a daily anchor.
Three...Offer:
Many of us acknowledge Mother Earth by being conscious about what products we buy. To be more direct in offering gratitude, when you pass your chosen space or plant, offer something physical, like dropping flower petals, herbs, or similar, simply saying 'thank you' in your mind our out loud. On the days you don't have anything with you, you can just offer a blessing of thanks or, 'may you be well', or, if you can, singing or humming your favourite tune!
